Matches for the second season of Reliance Foundation Youth Sports kickstarted at Goa and Hyderabad today.
Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics and CES College of Arts and Commerce locked horns in a rollercoaster match at the early kickoff in the College Boys Category. CES was the first to draw blood when Glen Fernandes scored inside the first ten minutes with a brilliant cut back and a left foot finish into the top corner. Damodar College slowly started finding their feet and began dominating proceedings and it wasn’t a surprise when Stephen Satarkar equalized with half an hour on the clock. They struck again in the very next minute when some lacklustre defending found Abhay Shetty on the edge of the box and he kept his cool to drill a low shot into the left corner of the net. The teams went into half time with the score 2-1. CES came out determined in the second half and Glen Fernandes scored again on 47 minutes to level the score. Things were reminiscent of the first half as Damodar College took time to settle down. With some brilliant one touch play, they started dictating the majority of play and Ruflon Fernandes scored in the 70th minute to get the lead again. Arif Pathan put the doubts away for Damodar in the 80th minute by doubling the lead. The game finished 4-2 with Glen Fernandes of CES being awarded the Player of the Match award for two exceptional goals.
The second and final match of the day at Goa was played between Our Lady of Rosary High School and Regina Martyrum High School in the Junior Boys Category. Both the teams failed to convert chances in the first half but the pep talk at half time worked instantly for Our Lady who got the lead within six minutes of the restart thanks to Joswel Cardozo. Regina Martyrum tried with all their might but the defenders of Our Lady of Rosary High School gave very little away. Joswel Cardozo was elected as the Player of the Match Award for his winning goal.
The new season started with a blast at Hyderabad where Shree Swami Narayan Gurukul Vidyalaya thumped Alliance International School with twenty goals without reply in the first game of the Junior Boys Category. Alliance International where shell-shocked finding the ball inside their net five times inside the first twenty minutes. The half ended with an overwhelming score of 9-0. Shree Swami Narayan Gurukul Vidyalaya were in no mood to ease things off after the restart and they put eleven more goals into the net of a hapless Alliance goalkeeper. The final score was, 20-0 with Siddharth Jain scoring ten goals and Komma Reddy scoring six goals. Siddharth Jain was given the Player of the match award for his astounding performance.
