Major sporting disciplines like badminton, hockey, table tennis and wrestling have been dropped from the roster for the 2026 Commonwealth Games the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced earlier this week. This comes after the Scottish city of Glasgow was shortlisted as the next host of the event in two years time.

The 2026 edition of the Games was initially scheduled to be hosted by the State of Victoria, Australia. But the mounting cost of hosting the event saw them withdraw from the hosting rights last year. Following a number of deliberations, Glasgow was chosen as the next host with the local organising committee deciding on compact and low scale Games with just 10 sports across four venues. The event will run from July 23 to August 2.

The events that have made the cut for CWG 2026 include athletics, swimming, track cycling, weightlifting, 3x3 basketball, lawn bowls, netball, artistic gymnastics, judo and boxing.
