RFYS Football Season 2022-23: A goal-fest draws curtains to an exhilarating season in the City of Steel
16 goals were scored across the five finals in different categories to draw curtains to an exhilarating season of football in the city of steel.
The Jamshedpur City Championship culminated with five finals across different categories on November 7, 2022. While four of these finals were finished in 90 minutes, the Senior Boys final between Shyama Prasad Intermediate College and Vidya Bharati High School was decided in a penalty shootout.
Lal Bahadur Shashtri Memorial College emerged victorious in College Boys and School Girls competitions, whilst Shyama Prasad Intermediate College, Vidya Bharati High School, and Ramakrishna Mission High School have been crowned champions in the other three categories.
After edging out Shyama Prasad High School in the semi-finals by a 1-0 victory, Vidya Bharati High School ran riot in the final against High School Gitilata in the Junior Boys category.
High School Gitilata smashed 13 goals in their semi-final on Saturday but was left flat-footed against Vidya Bharati High School on Monday. They have been crowned champions in the U-16 Boys competition after a thumping 4-0 win in the final at the Tinplate Sports Complex, Jamshedpur.
Vidya Bharati High School suffered a heartbreak in the Senior Boys final, where Shyama Prasad Intermediate College emerged victorious after a penalty shootout. After both sides scored one goal each in the allotted time, the shootout finished 4-3 in favor of the Shyama Prasad Intermediate College.
Ramakrishna Mission High School was on a roll in the semi-finals and the finals of the Sub-Junior Boys' competition and scored 11 goals in both these crucial games to win the championship.
They defeated Gyandeep High School 6-0 in the semi-finals conducted at the Armory Ground on November 5. The goal-scoring spree continued in the final, as they smashed five past Vani Vidya Mandir High School on Monday to win the U-14 title.
Lal Bahadur Shashtri Memorial College had two finals to compete in on November 7 and emerged as champions in both of them.
After winning the Senior Girls semi-final on penalties against Vidya Bharati High School, Lal Bahadur Shashtri Memorial College had a fairly comfortable outing in the final, beating Vani Vidya Mandir High School 2-0.
The College Boys from the same institution showed nerves of steel to win the final against Jamshedpur Co-Operative College. The game seemed to be heading toward a penalty shootout with the scorecard reading 1-1, but an 82nd-minute winner sealed the deal for Lal Bahadur Shashtri Memorial College.
The eventual champions of the College Boys category had little trouble in the semi-finals, where they thumped Patamda Degree College 5-0.
